Donated bricks surround the Kent County Veterans Memorial ParkWe also support the Kent County Veterans Memorial Park which tributes Gold Star Mother and Families, those lost in Vietnam, Korea, and the Middle East. The park also contains a POW/MIA Chair of Honor, a War Dog memorial and a UH-1 “Huey” Dustoff helicopter perched on an 18-foot stand. The park is financed through the sale of memorial bricks. If you wish to honor a family member or loved one who served, buy a brick to support the memorials, visit the Support the Memorials page.

Sixpence Fundraiser for Delaware Veterans Trust FundIn a trip down memory lane, Sixpence is back and the first performance of the newly reconstituted band will be a benefit for the Delaware Veterans Trust Fund at Cowboy Up Saloon, 1036 Lafferty Lane, Dover on Friday, October 13, at 8 p.m.

Sixpence was formed in 1973 with founding members Mike Dunlop, Marie Dunlop, Stan Little, Michael Utley and many others along the way, including Lori Christiansen and Wayne Lopez as lead vocalists. They band began playing small jobs back then, including Dover’s Holiday Inn, The Hub, The Brown Fox, Timberwick, The Sidedoor, China Gardens, and Cadeaux’s. “A couple of us were talking about how much fun we used to have and decided to get back together to play 60s, 70s and 80s hits just for fun. We hope to see a lot of old friends at the fundraiser,” said Mr. Dunlop.

This will be a showcase event for the band. Lead vocalist Lori Christiansen has been involved with veteran related organizations and events for years. She is also the permanent national anthem vocalist for each of the three to four annual events put on by Kent County Chapter 850, Vietnam Veterans of America, at the County Veterans Memorial Park. She sings to honor her late father, a WWII veteran. Actually, all of the band members have a military connection in their families.

“Cowboy Up has done a lot of fundraisers and we suspect this will be one of our last,” said Felicia Baker, who recently announced she and her husband Jimmy will be selling to a new owner but the show will go on.

“We are pleased this event will raise money for Delaware veterans in need.” She and Sixpence are working with the Friends of Delaware Veterans, the official fundraising organization of the Trust Fund. The Friends is a 501c3 organization made up of veteran leaders from across the state who volunteer their time and effort. All proceeds will be turned over to the Trust Fund.

Cowboy Up Admission will be $10 and there will a 50/50 and a Chinese Auction. Posters will be displayed in area businesses along with a $1 contribution sheet for those who would like to contribute but cannot attend the event. “We anticipate a large crowd and attendees are encouraged to get there early,” said Ms. Baker. Call 736-8500 for a poster or a pledge sheet.

Visit or call 302-739-2792 for more information on the Trust Fund and how to make a tax deductible contribution.
